Foundation students of University College of Technology Sarawak (UCTS) conducted a community service event named “Begulai Sejalai 2019” last week on 14-15 December 2019. The venue of the community service is at Rumah Panjang, Tr. Mary, Nanga Salim, Jalan Stabau, 96000, Sibu, Sarawak. The longhouse consists of 10 attached units and several individual units with approximately over 50 residents living in the longhouse. The main purpose of conducting this event are to engage the foundation students with the longhouse culture, to promote the intercultural activities among foundation students and the longhouse residents and to promote a healthy lifestyle and environment to the longhouse residents.

Fifty foundation students, accompanied by five lecturers, took part in this event. During the event, they conducted various activities such as programme “anak angkat”, indoor and outdoor games that involve with the longhouse residents such as Tug of War, Balloon War, Newspaper Outfit Game, “Pekit Gamal Jai”( ugly face competition ), “Poco-Poco” (a popular line dance from Maluku province in Indonesia), “Ngetas Ranyai” and Karaoke. “Gotong-Royong” were organised to help out the longhouse community to enhance the current infrastructure of the longhouse.
